As we all know, Toray Japan since 1971 in the world's first commercialization of PAN-based carbon fibers, after more than half a century of development, the most complete range of carbon fibers, from the specifications of the tow, both small-twisted carbon fibers and large-twisted products; from the product category, both the production of dry-sprayed wet-spun and wet carbon fibers; from the performance of the production of standard modulus, intermediate modulus, high-modulus In terms of performance, it can produce standard modulus, medium modulus, high modulus carbon fiber and the latest ultra-high strength T1200 carbon fiber and so on.

So, in the latest version of Japan Toray 2024 carbon fiber product catalog, in addition to conventional carbon fiber products and the latest announcement of the large tow T720SC carbon fiber, Japan Toray company still has what the bottom of the box of products have not yet large-scale marketing, in order to understand the problem before, to understand the difference between the products of Japan Toray's global carbon fiber production plants.
Toray global factory division of labor clear, slightly different products
Toray Group in Europe (France), Asia (Japan, South Korea), North America (U.S.) and other regions are equipped with carbon fiber production plants, but the products produced by each plant are not exactly the same.

Toray America, for example, the products marked in red in the chart below are carbon fiber grades produced only in the U.S. At present, the U.S. Toray plant mainly produces carbon fiber product types include:
Standard modulus carbon fiber: T700S, T700G
Medium modulus carbon fiber: T800S, T910S, T1100S/G
This also means that the current PAN-based carbon fiber ceiling level products - MJ series products, Toray U.S. factories are not able to produce, even if the lower level of M35J and M40J and other types of carbon fiber.

Toray still have what the bottom of the box products not mass market?
Currently there are four products that have been successfully developed but have not yet been launched on a global scale, including the following:
T620S: Developed by Toray Europe, with a tow size of 24K, tensile strength of 4,300MPa, tensile modulus of 235GPa, elongation at break of 1.8%, and line density of 1,850g/km (for sale in Europe).

T710S: Developed by Toray Europe, with a bundle size of 24K, tensile strength of 4700MPa, tensile modulus of 265GPa, elongation at break of 1.8%, and wire density of 1625g/km (sold in Europe).
T910S: Developed by Toray America, with a bundle size of 36K, tensile strength of 6,070MPa, tensile modulus of 278GPa, elongation at break of 2.2%, and wire density of 1,615g/km (sold in North America). The type was successfully developed in April 2020 on Toray America's CA-4 production line in Decatur, Alabama.

Toray America's carbon fiber production line
GT Z600: Tow specification unknown (estimated 50K), tensile strength 4,400MPa, tensile modulus 235-245GPa; its performance is intermediate between that of the PX35-type large-tow carbon fiber produced by Toray America's subsidiary, Zoltek, and that of conventional tow. The product was successfully developed in 2017, and large-scale production will begin in 2019. It is a carbon fiber with excellent cost performance, which was exhibited at the 2019 Shanghai International Composites Exhibition, but has not yet been marketed on a large scale.
