According to the latest news released on the official website of China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC) Installation, CSCEC Installation has recently successfully won the bid for the phase I design and construction general contracting project of an annual output of 10,000 tons of carbon fiber and 60,000 tons of differentiated acrylic yarn, with a bid amount of 1.297 billion yuan. The project is a key construction project in Guangdong Province in 2024, located in the Jieyang Daxina Sea Petrochemical Industrial Zone, one of the four major petrochemical industry bases in Guangdong Province, covering an area of about 210,000 square meters. After completion and production, it will help to improve the carbon fiber industry chain, enhance China's competitiveness in the global fiber industry chain, and help Guangdong Province to build a leading domestic and world-class green petrochemical industry cluster.
The main body of the project implementation is Guangdong Natex Functional Fiber Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Guangdong Natex"), which, along with Gansu Natex New Material Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Gansu Natex"), which just started the construction of a ten thousand ton carbon fiber project last month, is a subsidiary of Shanghai Natex New Material Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Shanghai Natex"). Shanghai Natex is a newly established company jointly funded by Mengtai High-tech Company, a listed company in the chemical industry in Jieyang City, Guangdong Province, and Electrical Wind Power.
Although Guangdong Natex and Gansu Natex are both building ten thousand ton carbon fiber projects, the positioning of the carbon fiber products of the two companies is different. According to the news announced by Mengtai High-tech Company, the Guangdong project mainly produces small tow carbon fiber, while the project in Zhangye, Gansu, produces large tow carbon fiber. On September 20th, the ten thousand ton carbon fiber construction project of Gansu Natex was started in Zhangye City, with a total planned investment of 2.77 billion yuan, divided into three phases, and after completion, it will produce 24,000 tons of PAN carbon fiber annually, with an estimated annual output value of 2.16 billion yuan.
Mengtai High-tech is a professional manufacturer engaged in the research and development, production, and sales of polypropylene fiber. In 2020, Mengtai successfully landed on the ChiNext board of Shenzhen Stock Exchange, with the stock abbreviation: Mengtai High-tech. On December 29, 2022, Mengtai High-tech announced that the company plans to invest 4.794 billion yuan in the construction of a project with an annual production of 10,000 tons of carbon fiber and 60,000 tons of differentiated acrylic yarn, with its wholly-owned subsidiary Guangdong Natex as the main body.
On April 11, 2023, Mengtai High-tech held a performance explanation meeting in the form of an online meeting, and disclosed more details about the company's investment in the construction of a ten thousand ton large tow carbon fiber project: the target product of the project is mainly large tow T300 grade and high-performance small tow T700 grade general products, which will be built in Guangdong and Gansu respectively. The company established Guangdong Natex in Jieyang, Guangdong.
In November 2023, Guangdong Natex planned to sign a contract with MAE S.p.A. to purchase 2 sets of polyacrylonitrile-based carbon fiber spinning lines for the carbon fiber project, with a total contract price of 32.0157 million euros, including equipment contract amount of 31.1157 million euros and technical service contract amount of 0.9 million euros.
In March 2024, Guangdong Natex won the right to use the state-owned construction land located to the west of Petrochemical Avenue and to the south of the planned West Zone South Road in the Jieyang Daxina Sea Petrochemical Industrial Zone with a bid of 97.15 million yuan, and obtained the transaction confirmation, which will be used for the carbon fiber project.
